The Art of Strip Collage

These large format collages are striking in any room.

Each of my collage pieces is a labor of love and a journey into color, texture, and focus.

I work primarily with pages from Vogue and National Geographic, chosen for their rich imagery, bold colors, and high-quality print. I begin by selecting the pages that resonate most deeply with me—those that spark emotion or intrigue. These pages are first cut into squares, then into long, delicate strips, which I arrange by hand into intricate patterns on a prepared substrate. In this piece, that substrate is a gallery-depth birch wood panel, chosen for its strength and beauty. The edges are painted and sealed, making framing optional.

The process is slow and meticulous. Depending on the size and complexity, each piece can take days or even weeks to complete. It’s a meditative yet deeply focused experience—what psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi described as a flow state: a feeling of energized immersion, full engagement, and timeless creativity.

Once the collage is in place, I apply two layers of professional-grade art resin. This resin not only protects the piece with UV resistance but also enhances the colors and creates a subtle dimensionality that only this type of paper can produce. For a softer finish, a third layer of matte varnish may be added, reducing the shine while preserving the depth.

Every collage is one of a kind—handmade, thoughtfully constructed, and designed to capture both the eye and the imagination. The price reflects the time, intention, and craftsmanship that goes into each step of the process.

Thank you for supporting original art.
